Leadership Spotlight: Lanée Mellegard, Director of Marketing

Each month, we’re interviewing members of Volusion’s leadership team to gain insight into the people behind the company. This month, we’re talking with Volusion’s Director of Marketing, Lanée Mellegard.

How did your background prepare you for joining Volusion?

I've spent 18 years doing marketing strategy for businesses of all sizes in various industries. I spent nearly 15 of those years in the advertising industry, where I found a passion for leveraging data and analytics to help businesses drive decisions. I find joy in connecting people and their businesses with solutions that will make a positive impact in their life. I'm excited to be part of the Volusion team, supporting the needs of our merchants and bringing our solution to more businesses.

What were you most eager to work on when you came onboard?

The Volusion team has a great product, and I'm excited to help more businesses discover the value of our solution and how it will help with the challenges they're currently facing. I'm also excited to speak with more of our merchants and learn directly from them on the successes and challenges they're facing.

What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?

I've received some great advice from mentors, leaders, and peers over the years; however, there are two Disney quotes that have always resonated with me in both my personal and professional life: "Keep Moving Forward" and "Just Keep Swimming." Walt Disney said, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." I think both curiosity and embracing change are crucial to success, and I strive to implement this approach in my role. "Just Keep Swimming" reminds me to embrace failure, learn quickly, and continue towards my goals.

What do you think are some of the biggest unrealized opportunities for ecommerce businesses at the moment?

I recommend doing an audit of your business website to evaluate its SEO and Speed Performance via Google Lighthouse. You may be surprised to learn how adjusting a few things to increase your site’s SEO and Speed will increase your potential to generate additional revenue. Taking the time to differentiate your website from your competitors, in terms of both performance and design, is an important part of marketing your ecommerce business to stand out in an ever-growing market.

Does your team have anything exciting in the pipeline?

The Volusion marketing team is working on increasing our voice in the market so we can help more businesses find the success that our merchants have found, and also developing more partnerships so we can offer our merchants more integration options.
