Volusion Tip: Extending Product Descriptions

Learn how to write extended product descriptions using Volusion software

Learn how to use a special Volusion feature to write robust product descriptions without ruining your customers’ shopping experience.

Do you use the Features, Technical Specs and Extended Information tabs on your products page? They can be a great way to present information without making your customers scroll down through long pages of text. But what if these titles seem to have no relevance to your  products? Technical Specs might be great for engines, computers and audio equipment but what if you’re selling cupcakes or scented candles or designer lingerie? It just  doesn’t really go with these things, does it?

Well, did you know that you can change these titles and use these tabs for other purposes? Maybe you’d like to change Technical Specs to Nutritional Details? Or Extended Information to Fragrant Facts? The possibilities are entirely up to you. You can even change the main product description title if Description seems a little too prosaic.

To change these titles, just go to any product in your inventory and click the Edit link on the right of Product Description, Features, Technical Specs or Extended Information. This will open the Update Content: Page Text. Now just replace the title and click Save.

There, it’s done!  Now if you use this field it will be displayed with the heading you just entered. Note that changing these titles change them across your store – not just for an individual product.

We are evaluating using the tabs right now to give shoppers more info. I wish the tabs stood out more to shoppers. right now the tabs are easy to miss. a popular tab design is to gray the tabs not displayed so it is easy to see to click on them. thanks
