Announcing the Revamped Coupons/Discounts Page and True One Time Use Coupons

The Coupons/Discounts page just got a makeover! Check out this post to see improvements to the page, as well as learn about new true one time use coupons.

Creating coupons for your online store just got even easier. Introducing the revamped Coupons/Discounts page, complete with improved usability and the expanded functionality of true one time use coupons.

With the addition of true one time use coupons, you now have three Coupon Usage options at your disposal:

  • Unlimited Use: Customers can use this coupon an unlimited number of times.
  • One-Time Use Per Customer: Each customer can only use this coupon once. (This is based on CustomerID and IP Address.)
  • NEW One-Time Use: This coupon can only be used once. After the coupon’s been used, it’s marked as “redeemed” and can never be used again.


This new type of coupon is perfect for helping you run campaigns where customers purchase a code, like in the case of a Groupon, Living Social or Amazon deal. It’s also great for keeping a coupon code from going “viral” and being shared with unintended audiences.

Tip: If you’d like to offer a large number of unique codes, the import/export tool can help you create them easily.

In addition to the expanded functionality, we’ve also revamped the Coupons/Discounts page to be more intuitive and user friendly.  It’s now easier than ever to indicate which products or categories your discounts and coupons will apply to. Simply select the products or categories from the pop-up menu, and your coupons and discounts will be applied.

You’ll also notice that the Coupons/Discounts page now displays two new columns: Coupon Usage and Single-Use Redeemed. Coupon Usage tells you whether the coupon is Unlimited, SingleUsePerCustomer, or SingleUse, while Single-Use Redeemed tells you whether a Single Use coupon has been redeemed or not.

    Finally, something that will work for my store. Thanks Volusion. next thing I ask is if you could please make the email for “Enabled Carts applicable to Australian time too, as in we would like to be able to send out the email 12 hours after the abandoned cart and not 30 hours due to USA time.

    Do the coupons still discount the gross price, and not the net price after a Quantity Discount is applied. This is a major flaw in quantity discounts.

    Really, you took the time and effort to update the coupons, but didn’t fix the problems that existed before you started. Its still impossible to assign or restrict discounts to one customer group or another. Also there is no way to prevent customers from using 2 coupons/discounts at the same time. 3D-CART has Volusion beat hands down in this department.

      Hi, Mike. We apologize that you’ve had some issues with our coupon functionality to date. It’s true that we don’t yet enable coupons to be restricted for certain customer groups, but that is certainly a feature we can consider for our roadmap. Just to clarify, however, you do have the capability of preventing multiple coupons from being used together. As always, we appreciate your feedback.

    The next update should include a code to get a free gift.
    ‘Use code xxx on your next order and get a free…’
    This feature should not need the customer to add the ‘free’ item to the cart.

    We’d love to see more coupon options, ie: tiered savings. Save 10% at $100, 20% at $200, 30% at $300 and so on to use one code vs us setting up multiple codes to advertise in an ad. Also, shipping upgrade from ground to 3 day for no extra charge. Thanks!
