One of the strongest forces of a successful business is clear: find a need and offer a solution. This premise is the foundation of this month’s success story, Kate Mistol’s skin care line, Baby Bump.

The necessity of Baby Bump was discovered during Kate’s first pregnancy. Having spent her entire life battling skin problems, the moment she became pregnant, those problems intensified. The search for creams and lotions that were toxin-free became exhausting. Most of the ingredients were unpronounceable, and once she researched them, the results were terrifying. For peace of mind, she experimented with her own skin care remedies and Baby Bump was born. Soon thereafter, BabyBump.ca was ready to make its debut.

Baby Bump officially launched in the US market in the spring of 2009 at LA Fashion Week.  Overwhelmed by the celebrity moms who enthusiastically raved about her products, Kate knew she needed to take her products online. With the help of Volusion’s professional design team, BabyBump.ca launched in the summer of 2010.Within a few months of launch, traffic dramatically increased, resulting in a revenue boost of 45%.

So with all this success, what advice does this budding entrepreneur have to share?

Kate notes, “Being successful online is dependent on several parts collaborating together – including great products, easy navigation through the website, and marketing.”

Kate is constantly motivated by her kids and her advocacy for safe, regenerative skin care products. But as with any business, there were some bumps along the way. She reflects, “Just because you build an online store, you’re not ensured online success…you don’t fail, you only get unexpected results. So learn from them and move on.  This will help you grow faster than ever before.”

Fueled by this business philosophy, she did learn, grow, and become increasingly successful. In fact, Baby Bump was invited to the 2009 Emmy Awards and then the 2010 Golden Globe Awards. Clearly, this blossoming business is on the fast track to bigger and brighter things.
