So you’re thinking about getting a logo designed for your store. Chances are, though, you don’t know where to begin. You might be asking, “What is a logo’s purpose? Should I hire a professional?” A logo is one of the most important aspects of your brand. It is used to identify your company and set you apart from your competition.

In this article, I’m going show you 5 important qualities to a effective and appealing logo.

The Best Logos Are Simple

You want your logo to be instantly recognizable, so make it memorable by keeping it simple. The best logos are unique without being overdone. Take the Apple logo for example–this simple iconic logo is easily one of the more effective logos of our time.

The Best Logos Are Versatile & Scalable

Along with keeping it simple, your logo needs to be able to work across multiple mediums. Whether it is printed on a large billboard or on a tiny stamp, it needs to convey its message clearly and effectively in all formats.

The Best Logos Are Abstract, but Meaningful

Many companies overdesign their logos by trying to be too literal. A logo should be an impression of your company, not an exact description. While a logo is part of a brand, it is only one aspect of the whole brand.

The Best Logos Are Effective without Color

The most important part of your logo is the concept itself. Often times, a good designer begins a logo design in black and white. This way, you can make sure your concept/message is clear first and adding colors is secondary. As a process, designers will go through many sketch iterations before landing on the perfect concept for a logo.

The Best Logos are Appropriate

The message you convey with your logo should be appropriate for your audience. A logo using a playful font would be perfect for a children’s clothing store, but not for a store selling medical supplies.

As you can see, a good logo appears deceptively simple, but it carries meaning in its simple yet versatile form. Hopefully by now, you have a better understanding of what a good and effective logo looks like. We have a great design team here at Volusion that can help you with your new logo design. Keep these qualities in mind as your logo can greatly affect the success of your store.

Happy Selling!
