Creating & Installing Themes

In this article, we’ll cover creating a new theme or installing a pre-made theme into your store.

Creating a New Theme

  1. In Site Designer, click "Change Theme”—this will take you to a list of all of your themes (if you only have the one theme you are already using, then it will say "No inactive themes”).
  2. Click "Create new theme,” enter a desired name for your theme, and click "Create.” This will generate a brand new theme that includes only the bare minimum—a header, a footer, and the default pages that come with the theme.
  3. Click "Page: Home” and select “Master Template” from the drop-down menu. Now you can swap out the header, footer, hero image, etc. for anything else you like by clicking the plus icon and choosing from blocks in the sidebar. (Make sure if you add a new header or footer that you delete the old one.)
  4. Once your theme is set up the way you like, click the blue "Preview” button in the top left-hand corner so that you can navigate through its pages.
  5. If you are happy with your theme, click the green "Publish” button in the top left-hand corner.
  6. A message will pop up stating that this action will immediately remove the old theme from your live site and push the new theme up to it. (You will not lose the old theme—it will simply move to your inactive themes list.) If you’re ready to make that change, click the orange "Publish” button.
  7. Visit your live site to confirm that the new theme has been published.

Installing a New Theme

  1. On the Themes page in Site Designer, click "Theme Gallery” in the top right-hand corner. This will show you the list of the pre-built themes that we have to offer.
  2. If you’re interested in viewing a theme, click the "Preview” button within that theme’s box—this will load in a preview of your store with your own menu and content.
  3. When you’ve found a theme that you wish to use, click "Get theme” (for free themes) or "Buy theme” (for premium themes). This action will install the new theme onto your site as a staged version in your inactive themes.
  4. When you're ready to push this theme to your live site, click "Edit” to enter the theme, and then "Publish.”
  5. A message will pop up stating that this action will immediately remove the old theme from your live site and push the new theme up to it. (You will not lose the old theme—it will simply move to your inactive themes list.) If you’re ready to make that change, click the orange "Publish” button.
  6. Visit your live site to confirm that the new theme has been published.
